3 Ball Respiratory Exerciser
The 3 Ball Respiratory Exerciser is a simple and effective device designed to improve lung capacity and breathing control. Suitable for kids and adults, it helps with respiratory therapy, recovery, and daily breathing exercises at home.
A 3-ball respiratory exerciser, also commonly known as an incentive spirometer or respirometer, is a medical device designed to improve lung capacity, strengthen respiratory muscles, and promote deep, controlled breathing. It is widely used for post-surgery recovery, managing chronic lung conditions like asthma or COPD, and improving general fitness.
How It Works
The device features three separate chambers, each containing a lightweight, color-coded ball. When you inhale through the mouthpiece, the suction creates an airflow that lifts the balls sequentially based on your inhalation speed and strength:
First Ball (Green/Blue): Typically represents a lower flow rate of approximately 600 cc/sec.
Second Ball (Red/Yellow): Represents a medium flow rate of approximately 900 cc/sec.
Third Ball (Yellow/Blue): Represents a high flow rate of approximately 1200 cc/sec.
Step-by-Step Instructions for Use
Sit Upright: Sit in a comfortable, straight position and hold the device at eye level.
Exhale Normally: Breathe out completely through your mouth to empty your lungs before starting.
Seal the Mouthpiece: Place the plastic mouthpiece firmly between your lips, creating a tight seal so no air leaks out.
Inhale Deeply and Slowly: Take a deep, steady breath in through your mouth. Focus on a controlled breath rather than a fast jerk—your goal is to raise the first and second balls, and ideally the third, holding them up as long as possible.
Hold Your Breath: Once you reach your maximum inhalation, hold your breath for 3 to 5 seconds while keeping the balls elevated.
Exhale and Rest: Remove the mouthpiece and breathe out normally. Rest for a few moments before repeating the exercise.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Because moisture from your breath collects in the tubing, maintaining hygiene is crucial:
Pull the flexible tube and mouthpiece away from the main plastic base.
Wash the parts with warm water and mild antibacterial soap.
Shake off excess water and allow all pieces to air-dry completely before reassembling.
